The National Design Institute was founded by the Russia Designers Association, the Guild of Artistic Design (the section of Moscow Union of artists), designers Yuri Nazarov and Alexander Soifer. In 2014 the National Design Institute joined CUMULUS - International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media.
The collections presented by the department of costume design of the National Design Institute at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia were executed under the guidance of professor Tatyana Vasilieva and tutors Elena Usenkova, Olga Bushueva and Alexandra Proshina. The presentation consists of six graduation works of bachelor students and reflects the main directions of the department’s studies such as lighting design, transformation, the use of new technologies in the fabric treatment, the use of original cutting and new experimental forms. The projects are focused as well on a creative approach in fashion design as on the development of socially significant topics close to the real needs of society.
Maria Kuznetcova, «Love Letter»
This is a love story in letters where the image of the postal envelope is conveyed in the form of pockets with embroidered lines of poems. The main technics used is the screw cut of the sleeve - a complex structure with a continuous spiral seam. Each detail and bright color scheme of the collection carries its own meaning, complementing the story.
Guzal Normatova, «Broken»
The «Broken» collection is a series of shirts, pants, jackets with the use of customization and deconstructivist elements. The project under the motto "Break to create" creates the illusion of unfinished, broken, non-standard and free.
Olga Vatulina, «Lumen»
Glowing corals, jellyfish and other inhabitants of the underwater world with the phenomenon of bioluminescence inspired the creation of the collection using the author's knitted textures. Author uses the materials with addition of a luminescent thread and a metal thread.
Valeria Denisova, «Plastic ocean»
The project is dedicated to the problem of ocean pollution. A number of prints and slogans developed in the collection calls attention to the problem of plastic recycling: «The ocean is not a dump», «Save the ocean», «Help plastic ocean», «Entangled in networks».
Olga Kozlova, «DesigNID»
Graphic elements of reflective film, based on the corporate identity of the National Design Institute are applied to the fabric using thermal transfer printing. Such treatment plays not only decorative role but can serve also as a reflective signal element in the dark.
Maria Savina, «Annihilation»
The main source of inspiration for the creation of that collection with elements of transformation was the "Annihilation" movie by Alex Garland. A meteorite fallen into the base of the lighthouse begins to transform the space around it. Unknown object collects all the genetic material that is present nearby, transforming it into something totally new. Fabrics with a reflective effect resemble the glow and reflection of the anomalous zone, and jacquard fabric is associated with colorful moss growing on the wall inside "The Shimmer".
