Alena Akhmadullina – designer of the week according to

“About 15 years ago, in 2001, Alena Akhmadullina, a graduate of St. Petersburg academy of technology and design, founded a clothing brand, Alena Akhmadullina, which eventually became world-famous. This brand is unique for the history of Russian design and revolutionary in the world of fashion. Some of Alena’s achievements were making costumes for the participants of the Vancouver Olympics opening ceremony (2010), design of Russian Olympic team uniform (2008), T-shirts for Eurovision song contest in Moscow (2009) and costumes for grand celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Russian rhythmic gymnastics (2015). In 2008 the first Alena Akhmadullina concept store premiered in the historic center of the capital – Nikolskaya street. A boutique was opened in the shopping mall “Vremena goda” in 2012, and, Alena Akhmadullina corner in the shopping mall “Vesna” has recently been opened. Apart from that, Alena has created a collection, called Alena Akhmadullina for Eсonika, which is due to appear in stores in August.

PEOPLETALK has met Alena in one of her boutiques to talk about inspiration, muses, and famous designer’s plans for the future.

  • It seems that the fact that I want to create my own brand was obvious even before I was born, as if this path has always existed. At one particular moment, I just found myself walking on it.
  • There has never been any fear. It seemed a very natural scenario.
  • All of my friends supported me. As true friends are always there to support you, even if you come up with the craziest ideas.
  • I spent my first salary on buying sewing equipment.

  • If we are talking about luxury segment, then a brand has to be sold in multibrand boutiques, flagship malls, such as Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Bergdorf Goodman, Sax Fifth Avenue. Or one has to open their own boutiques in world capitals.

  • What motivates me is love of my job, desire to create clothes for people and doing it well, professionally. What motivates me is family support and happiness at home. What motivates me is care for my team and staff.
  • . I like everything about my job. Combining various tasks and processes, connected with design, financial activity, marketing, a feeling of happiness and inspiration is created.

  • Choosing from the living stars, I would like to see my clothes on Charlotte Gainsbourg (43), Tilda Swinton (54), Marion Cotillard (39), Meryl Streep (66) and Cate Blanchett (46).

  • I am dreaming of global peace, so that all the horrors in my country finished and all the people around were happy.

  • I am most frequently seen dressed in Alena Akhmadullina clothes. I have no regrets. Even the most negative experience drives and teaches us, creates us, changes us and is absolutely necessary.

  • I believe, I could teach any subject at school: mathematics, chemistry, history, Russian, literature, arts and sawing courses.

  • When I get acquainted with a person, first, I pay attention to my own feelings, perception of this person. I do not separate him into pieces: appearance, clothes, the way he speaks, I just get some kind of feeling, which tells me everything. People come and go in our lives, some of them pass by quickly, some stay with you forever, and all of them are necessary for something.

  • I spend very little time in social networks. About 5-10 minutes.

  • The brightest and the most memorable event of this year has been a jubilee Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia and Alena Akhmadullina fashion show within its framework.
  • A thing that is always with me is my phone.
  • My favorite book, that changed my consciousness, is the Bible.

I depend on many things: the level of oxygen in the air, the weather, the atmosphere at home, the well-being of my staff. We are always in a state of interdependence on each other, as well as on traffic jams, all this changes our destiny.

  • My happy place is in nature and at home.

  • Most of all I am proud of my business.

  • Apart from fashion, I am also keen on simple human things: lying on the sofa and reading books.
  • I spend my free time in very different ways: meet friends, sleep, eat, read, travel, cook something. I sometimes even do the housework, in my own way, not the way ordinary housework is done.

  • I believe there cannot be any taboos in fashion. Something most loathsome, for example, lacing or black nail polish, can become the most popular.

  • My fashion icons are Coco Chanel (1883-1971), Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) and Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993).
  • Launching your own business is hard but interesting.
  • I would like to wish to beginning designers to believe in themselves and love their job.
  • If I could talk to myself from childhood, I would immediately tell myself about Facebook and Apple”
