New lookbook from Yasya Minochkina brand showcases the collection Spring-Summer 2016 – a mix of cultural codes from 1970s, new practical fabrics and warm summer prints.
The starting point of Spring-Summer collection 2016 from Yasya Minochkina was 1970s, probably the decade that mostly appeal to fashion community in the coming summer season. During a business trip to France Yasta Minochkina found the book Fashion in the ‘70s: The Definitive Sourcebook. The author, a well-known fashion historian Emmanuelle Dirix, devoted the book to the development of fashion in 1970s: both on the runways and in the streets. The dynamically developing decade that was equally home to glamour, hippies and skaters inspired the designer to contemplate on the fashion codes performed in line with concept of the brand. The mood board is made up of the pictures of Joni Mitchell, Cher and Germaine Greer in flowing dresses and bright jumpsuits, cards from campaign of the concept store Biba with girls in flared pants, looks from Chloe and Halston runways, where evening fashion was literally reinvented. However romantic features of 1970s must look provocative and naughty, and here comes the image of Debbie Harry who looked astonishing in T-shirts with high-waist slim shorts and silk nightgown dresses 30 years ago. The final point of the collection is lavender fields where Minochkina spends a lot of her time due to work: the shapes and shades of this flower are transferred into fabrics of the new collection. The designer collects key references and processes them through her own vision of the contemporary functional outfit for active girls and women who do care about their looks.
LINES AND SHAPES
Dresses are the framework of every single collection from Yasya Minochkina. In the new season the dresses may be subdivided into three groups: midi-dresses with deep V-neck, strapped dresses of net fabric and silk dresses with puff sleeves. The designer offers to wear traditional summer coats of straight silhouette over such dresses. Tops are bright printed shirts like Diana Ross and Diane von Furstenberg, along with spaghetti-strapped tops. To complete the outfit the designer offers simple high-waist shorts, flounce skirts and flared pants.
FABRICS AND COLOURS
Every season the designer focuses on new technologies in fabrics manufacturing and experiments with them. Once again she offers the functional net fabric, this time supplemented by the patched flowers which seem to be hand-made (DIY aesthetics was very popular in 1970s). Another practical net fabric with the hand-made flare is rather large with bound edges. Yasya Minochkina also experiments with microfiber. The rest of collection is performed of purely natural fabrics – two-sided striped cotton and silk. Primary part of the collection is filled with warms summer shades that send you to the bright flower fields of the south of France: red, pink, canary-yellow. There are also bright green and blue. The most typical accent in the collection is neon details as the reference to tie dye technique.
Yasya Minochkina stays away from overloading the items with details, emphasizing on minimalism. However the Spring-Summer collection 2016 has some typical features of 1970s decade – large contrast collars, lapels, cuffs, as if from the suits of Marie Osmond and Margaret Thatcher.
