Italy calls Russia contest announces the winner

Russian designer launches his brand globally with Italian partners

In November 2015 Russian Fashion Council, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia, Italian manufacturer Grazia Bagnaresi and Studio Zeta showroom launched the contest Italy Calls Russia with the mission to discover a Russian designer who will get an opportunity to launch new collection in collaboration with Italian partners, at production facilities owned by Grazia Bagnaresi company and to be distributed through Studio Zeta showroom in Milan. Premier fashion show of the winner's collection will take place in Moscow on Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia.

Professional fashion designers under 40 with at least three seasonal collections were invited to participate in the contest. Designers presented full-featured Spring-Summer 2017 collections that included sketches, mood boards and detailed descriptions. In less than two months over 70 contest projects from emerging Russian designers were collected via website, of which the Jury later selected 6 finalists.

The 32nd Season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia witnessed the announcement of the results. In frames of the international conference Fashion Futurum the following members of the Jury visited Moscow: Filippo Ceroni, CEO of the Italian company Grazia Bagnaresi – manufacturer of such successful brands as SI-JAY, MARCOBOLOGNA, MIA HATAMI, and Mauro Galligari, founder and СЕО of Milan showroom Studio Zeta. During their visit to Moscow they attended fashion shows and presentations from designers-finalists, all performed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia, and personally met with every finalist.

'The selection process was not easy but we were happy to meet every finalist personally. In the end, they have all gone through a lot of work and may be considered winners. In my opinion, the contest was a success: we saw really talented young designers with huge potential,' says Filippo Ceroni. The Jury evaluated the designers’ projects in terms of quality, originality of the concept, compliance with the trends of the next season and potential attractiveness for international buyers.

At the end of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia the winner of the contest Italy Calls Russia was selected and announced - young Russian brand DIMANEU.

‘I really like the sense of art that DIMANEU puts into his collections - his Spring-Summer 2017 project is dedicated to the famous Russian painter Kandinsky. Overall, the collection is very colourful and joyful and clearly represents new trends for future seasons,’ says Mauro Galligari.

'In collection from DIMANEU I mostly enjoyed the attempt to combine Russian origins and traditions with something new, fresh and innovative. Dima's works proved him to be a professional well-prepared designer. I believe that productive partnership is ahead of us,' considers Filippo Ceroni.

Grazia Bagnaresi will the cover all the costs and expenses for launching the new collection in production while winner of the contest Dima Neu will be entirely responsible for the design. Italian partners, however, will assist the designer in building the collection to make it commercially successful. Studio Zeta will represent the collection starting from its first season which is quite unique for such respected showrooms; commonly the designer first has to show oneself as a reliable partner and supplier on the market. ‘Studio Zeta will work at the side of the designer like a coach team, giving all its experience to DIMANEU in order to find the best solutions and have the best results,’ claims Mauro Galligari.

'Actually the designer got Italian partners who will support not only his spirits but will invest considerable resources and funds into designer's name. This is the unique opportunity to acquire working experience on the global market along with a great chance', thinks Executive President of Russian Fashion Council Alexander Shumsky, 'What Dima should focus on at the moment is on designing the collection which will reflect his style to the maximum possible point and would identify him as designer from Russia. This will guarantee the success.'

The collection will be presented at Studio Zeta showroom in summer 2016 and at Milan Fashion Week, and later will be showcased at the runway of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia in October 2016.
